What's a Father To Do

We all need help and I thought I’d look online to see what tidbits might be available. There’s a lot of advice out there for fathers and their children. Here are a few examples.

From the World

  • Reading to your children regularly will bond you together and kickstart their imaginations.
  • Be nice to your children because they are going to choose your nursing home.
  • You’ll get 10x better results by elevating good behavior rather than punishing bad behavior, especially in children and animals.
  • For the best results with your children, spend only half the money you think you should, but double the time with them.
  • To keep young kids behaving on a car road trip, have a bag of their favorite candy and throw a piece out the window each time they misbehave.

From the Old Testament – Just in case the above doesn’t work.

  • "The eye that mocks a father and scorns an aged mother will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures." Proverb2 30:17
  • "If one curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be snuffed out in utter darkness." Proverbs 20;20

Let's hope those kids are marching to your tune by now! Right?

But then, bringing us back to the love between us . . .

  • "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother, that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Ephesians 6:1-3
  • "For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations." Psalm 100:5
  • "Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers." Proverbs 17:6
  • "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him." Psalm 127:3
  • "But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14
  • "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." Colossians 3:20
  • "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 3 John 1:4
  • "And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." Deuteronomy 6:6-7
  • "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." Romans 8:14
Yeah. maybe I overdid the whole quote from the Bible thing, but ya' know - we do need the help. All of us, new fathers, old fathers, part-time fathers, and did I say "OLD" fathers?  All true - still learning.

Happy Father's Day!
