Some people love to sing and some love listening to people who love to sing.
We are fast-approaching Christmas Day and of course, holiday music is in evidence everywhere. I suspect that some of you are a bit over it but even so, the next couple of days could see a renewed interest in the songs of the season.
I've got something for you. Actually, it's a re-gift from a dear friend, who also happens to be one of the performers.
Minnesota Chorale: A Winter Solstice
I would guess that this production is eagerly anticipated by many as an in-person event of great excitement. This year, it's virtual. One can lament or one can look forward to this performance with the same enthusiasm. Knowing how this feat was accomplished is fascinating and speaks to the commitment made by everyone involved.

These musicians had to record their own voice while singing their assigned vocal part without the aid of a director or even the assistance of other close-by singers. Once the individual recordings were submitted, the technology to produce a unified and harmonious result is nothing less than staggering. I plan to spend some of my windshield-time with the audio of these 'holiday hits' while driving to Minnesota. There is also the chance that some vocal intrusion will occur in the bubble of my vehicle.

There is even a selection performed by the Gauteng Choristers from South Africa called Ukuthula (Peace).
If ever the world could use a bit of peace and togetherness, it's this holy season. Let's spend some time hugging our neighbors - and even strangers! We will do this virtually, of course.
We are made to be together - not just family and friends, but every person in every part of the globe.
Maybe, for something fun and worthwhile, pick a location that holds your attention. Maybe you have relatives there, maybe you've always wanted to go there, or maybe the place just seems intriguing. Do your Google-thing and find out what it's like to celebrate this season in another part of the world. Think about the differences and commonalities. Maybe think about the commonalities well, more.
I'm going to look into Ireland. For her entire life, my mom talked about the name 'Ryan' and how very Irish we are. I have already found an Irish Christmas Prayer.
"The light of the Christmas star to you, The warmth of home and hearth to you, the cheer and good will of friends to you, the hope of a childlike heart to you, the joy of a thousand angels to you, the love of the Son and God's peace to you."
Merry Christmas!
Remembering your tree last year. Small but full of Irish Splendor. You are dearly missed. You are loved - forever. Merry Christmas, Mom. |
