Imperfect Beauty

This tree looks as though it should have fallen over years ago.  It's had a difficult life as its location has has pulled against the tree's natural tendency to grow straight.  A short slope has deprived this tree of valuable nutrients and water.

But, far from the perfect coniferous ideal, it continues to successfully struggle for life.  It finds a way to turn towards the light and grow.

I imagine this happens to all of us at one time or another.  We're not the perfect example of humanity as we're being pulled away from light and nourishment.  We bear the bend of our arrogance and judgement.  We follow the downward slope when lacking compassion, understanding and consideration for others. Our nutrients flow past us as greed and self-centered actions become our daily diet.

But there is room for the beauty of imperfection.  Gnarled it may be, this tree indicates that persistent struggle towards light is inspirational and amazingly beautiful.

We also can find beauty in our twisted, crooked lives. We can successfully struggle for life finding growth in seeking our light.

The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
Psalm 145: 14-15
